“SUMMER HOME”
Private Residence in Point Pleasant Boro, NJ
Complete Gut-Renovation + addition (approx. 3,200 SF)
This project is unique in that it went through two distinct design renovations. Originally, the challenge for this project was to take advantage of the spectacular water views on the Manasquan River. The original views of the dwelling were hamstrung with poorly placed design elements like the stair and mechanical room. The home was also compartmentalized, which is typical of older homes. It was immediately clear to remove these elements and create an open floor plan that when you enter the home it’s abundantly clear the owners are boaters and love the water.
Fast forward a few years later and unfortunately this home was a Super Storm Sandy victim. With over 30” of water above the existing first floor, the new design challenge was to elevate in a manner that enhances the views and make the dwelling feel right, like it’s always been this way.
We would argue the value of the home has increased and residual space was created that allows our clients to enjoy the outdoors even more with a bonus shaded environment under the elevated deck.
